LinkNations (LN) is an organization founded in 2006 by young Korean-Canadians,
with a focus on providing sustainable support to the people of North Korea.
Since 2010, our primary initiative—the Vitamin Tree Project—
has aimed to address nutritional deficiencies among North Korean communities
while promoting the sustainability of local agriculture.

North Korea faces severe nutritional imbalances due to extremely low production of fruits and vegetables.

Combating Vitamin Deficiency
The fruit of the vitamin tree contains 40 to 300 times more Vitamin C than apples, making it a vital nutritional resource.

North Korean leaders have recognized the vitamin tree as a "national treasure" and actively promoted its cultivation. This historical endorsement from leadership suggests strong governmental support for projects aligned with these values.
Both Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il emphasized the usefulness of the vitamin tree (known locally as Sageuk Tree) during their lifetimes. Due to North Korea's cold climate, unlike South Korea, Kim Il-sung praised the tree’s rich vitamins and amino acids, designating it a "national treasure" and encouraging its widespread planting across the country. This led to the tree being commonly referred to as the vitamin tree.
Kim Jong-un also emphasized:
“We must plant more high-quality trees to contribute to the prosperity of our nation, transforming the entire country into forests of valuable timber, fiber, oil, and edible fruit, leaving behind a lush, golden legacy for future generations.”
The fruit of the vitamin tree is used as a key ingredient in health foods, cosmetics, and beverages. Its benefits have been widely promoted on North Korean television, contributing to positive public perception and widespread recognition among the population.
북한 지도자들이 비타민 나무를 “국가의 보물”로 평가하며 장려하여 지도자들의 유훈 관철 차원에서 정부의 적극적인 지원을 기대할 수 있습니다.
고 김일성 수령과 김정일 수령이 생전에 비타민 나무(사극나무)의 유용성을 언급한 바가 있습니다. (한국과 달리 날씨가 추운 북한에서는 고 김일성 주석의 지시에 따라 비타민나무의 비타민, 아미노산 성분을 높이 평가해 “국가의 보물”로 정하고 전 국토에 심도록 장려했고, 그 이후 비타민나무라는 이름이 붙여졌다고 한다.
김정은 : “우리는 수종이 좋은 나무를 많이 심어 나무심기가 실지로 조국과 민족의 부강번영에 이바지하게 하며 전국에 용재림, 섬유림, 유지림, 식용열매나무림을 대대적으로 조성하여 후대들에게 수림이 우거지고 황금산, 보물산으로 전변된 조국산천을 물려주어야 합니다.”
열매는 건강식품, 화장품, 음료 등의 원료로 사용 가능. 비타민 나무의 효능이 TV를 통해 소개되어 북한 동포들은 이미 좋은 인식을 갖고 있습니다.

Resolving Imbalances
Vitamin tree fruits, if not harvested in time, fall to the ground by spring. Due to the lack of proper harvesting methods and cold storage facilities, even collected fruits ferment within a few days, rendering them unusable.
Temporal Imbalance
Secure refrigeration and processing technologies to maintain fruit freshness after harvest.
Spatial Imbalance
Develop methods to compress, dry, and package fruits for long-term storage and wider distribution.

Continued international support and collaboration are critical for overcoming logistical challenges.
불균형 해소
비타민 나무 열매는 수확할 시기를 놓쳐 봄이 되면 땅에 떨어집니다. 많은 양을 수확할 방법도 없거니와 수확한 열매도 저온 저장 시설이 없어 수일 내로 발효가 되어 사용할 수가 없습니다.
